The colibrí Collaborators
We are a woman-led collaborative with more than 100 years of combined experience developing ways for organizations to navigate change powerfully with those most impacted at the center. We formed the Colibrí Collaborative because we see the need to cross pollinate ideas, connect, build bridges, and to heed the lessons of our past while creating a different future. We collaborate with our partners and each other.

I am the daughter of two Mexican immigrants whose parents and ancestors raised their families in ranches and orchards in Guanajuato, Mexico. My culture, family, especially my children, community, and love of nature have focused my everyday actions to be rooted in the impact I want to have. I am a leader for change. After more than 20 years of experience working in education and nonprofits as a community organizer, teacher, administrator, board member, policymaker, executive director, and Colibri collaborator, I have learned the importance of working together with clarity and purpose. I hail from the Twin Cities, Minnesota. I am so grateful for my parents. For my mom, who exposed me to people from across the world so that I seek and value different ways of being and thinking. And for my dad, who raised me to see that change happens locally, that people and love are my greatest resources, and that real change takes time. I love supporting leaders and organizations to work in a more connected way. I have over 13 years of experience as a teacher, counselor and administrator in schools, and working in local and international nonprofits. I am an educator and leader who builds programs that shift the culture of institutions by creating deep partnerships, lifting up the gifts and strengths of my community. (Pronouns: She/They)
My superpower is: My superpower is being a systems thinker, managing and simplifying complex processes, and being a direct communicator.

I am an Indo-Canadian immigrant to the United States. As a passionate evaluation specialist, I promote equity and inclusivity in creating and implementing evaluation frameworks. In addition to centering equity in evaluation, I bring ten plus years of experience in developing and using performance based metrics in program evaluations to measure effort and impact. My monitoring and evaluation experience has focused on the implementation and assessment of evidence-based strategies to assist women, youth, seniors, low-income families, refugees and immigrants. My graduate degree in Public Policy provided me with a solid foundation in systems level thinking, critical analysis and solution finding for complex problems. (Pronouns: She/Her)
My Superpower is: helping organizations ask and answer questions that reveal the gaps between their objectives and desired impact.

I’ve always wanted to change the world, and I thought I wanted to do it one person at a time. As the oldest of four boys, we moved around a lot because my dad was in the US Navy. When he retired, we settled in the Bay Area where I thought changing the world one person at a time meant teaching, so I went to college, got a degree in psychology, then an MA in counseling. Then I got a doctorate in organizational psychology thinking I could change the world one organization at a time. After over 30 years working for diversity, inclusion and social justice, I’ve relearned that I can only change the world one person at a time, and it begins and ends with me. However, I can work with others to change the conditions and contexts so that we’re all reminded of our loveliness. My experience includes 30 years on numerous boards, 22 years teaching graduate-level courses including strategic planning and management, organizational change, research design, and cultural diversity in organizations. (Pronouns: He/Him)
My superpower is: reflected in my personal mission to facilitate, integrate, and cultivate a love-based social justice agenda for awakening community well-being.

I grew up the son of a preacher man in the Midwest. My dad was a pretty good one, as far as pastors go. Watching him, I learned about humble leadership, loving community, and how to tell a good story. I try to apply those lessons through the analytical and evaluative lens that I’ve developed through more than ten years of working with nonprofits in sexual health and rights, anti-trafficking, and education. While earning a graduate degree in International Administration concentrating on nonprofit management and human trafficking, I realized the power of data both to reveal and conceal. I cut through the noise to find actionable insights.
My Superpower: While I didn’t expect to enjoy Logic in college, it taught me a valuable lesson. While there are often infinite ways to solve a problem, the real beauty and satisfaction is in finding the most elegant solution.

I firmly stand for dignity, justice, courage, and joy for myself and all others. I am a mom of a recent high school graduate. Many of my skills include capacity building, change management, and facilitating strategic design. I have 20+ years of experience in the Bay Area as a youth development practitioner and collaborative leader. Currently, a district administrator with OUSD (Oakland Unified School District), I am adept at facilitating transitions and operations, infrastructure assessment/development, data-driven program design, and executive leadership coaching. To further my reach in educational policy, I serve on the governing board for CAN (California Afterschool Network), chairing the strategy committee. (Pronouns: She/Ella)
My Superpower is: to excavate and elevate organizational elements that need transformation, while co-creating systems, pathways, and outcomes that are timely, inclusive, transparent, and equitable.

I am an East Oakland native and child of immigrants from rural Jalisco, Mexico. Being raised in one of the most ethno-racially diverse, but equally segregated cities, my social-economic and political awareness began at a young age. My experiences have shaped my approach to community work into one with a compassionate and fierce lens. I obtained my bachelors in Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. I have over 8 years of experience in nonprofits, education and small businesses as an administrator, staff coordinator, facilitator, and program assistant. (Pronouns: She/Her)
My superpower is: microscopic vision. I look for the details that others may not easily see that brings both the work and the people together.
